In 2006 an extensive school rebuilding began. In the years prior to this event no students for the 5th grades had been admitted. The last remaining classes were moved to the neighboring Schiller-Gymnasium, and the Rainer-Fetscher-Gymnasium was closed.

Some successful activities of the students and the alumni list of the RFG will be continued on the homepage of the Schiller-Gymnasium.
